What is STRIDE?

STRIDE is the emergency support service designed to help college students walk home safely at night. With a swift onboarding process and cutomizable SOS settings, students can design the experience to their liking.

Timeline: 6 weeks
My Role: UI/UX Designer
Tools: Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Procreate

The Problem:

7/8 students walk home from campus at night > 5 times a week, but only 1/8 notify a friend or have SOS settings on.

User research indicates that students avoid activities that they find stressful, like preparing for potentially dangerous scenarios.

FINAL SCREENS

REFLECTION

Test Early & Often: I was so eager to design the exact interaction I was envisioning for each feature within the app, that I presented wireframes to my users for testing that were of a much higher fidelity than necessary. The information I recieved from their feedback was far more valuable than anything I could have discovered on my own, and I redesigned my screens at least 4 times once I started presenting them for feedback. Now I know to save the fun branding elements for the end, and prioritize functionality and an accurate solution to the user’s needs throughout prototyping.
